The Canberra Careers Market is an annual event usually conducted on the first Wednesday and Thursday of August each year. The Canberra Careers Market is a joint project of the Rotary Club of Canberra City and the ACT Department of Education and Training. This Market specialises in the provision of valuable career opportunities to secondary students throughout the ACT and surrounding NSW schools network. This Careers Market is the largest event of its type in the Canberra Region and is the best opportunity available to help young people to consider their post-school options. Over 80 local and national exhibitors, including universities, colleges, and career placement organisations provide a wide range of information sources. The Try A Trade initiative is designed to give the Careers Market broader appeal to students enabling them the opportunity to see and try first hand different trades available under the apprenticeship scheme. This has proved to be most successful. The Small Business and Entrepeneurs Lounge offers attendees the opportunity to explore the possibiles surrounding small business and entrepreneural activities. The Rotary Club of Canberra City and the ACT Department of Education and Training are looking forward to another exciting Canberra Careers Market in 2010. The Market will once again showcase a wide range of career pathways that appeal to a diverse population in order to provide a valuable experience for all relevant stakeholders. Students, parents, teachers, careers advisors and career changers are encouraged to come along and explore, ask questions and gather as much information as possible. Exhibitors from the Canberra Institute of Technology, the Australian National University, the University of Canberra, as well as other educational providers, training institutions and employers will provide useful and relevant information in an interactive and interesting way. Try’a Trade Back by popular demand! Once again the Canberra Careers Market will play host to the Try’a Trade exhibition. The hands on exhibition allows attendees to meet and talk with experts who are recognised as leaders in their trade as well as apprentices and teachers. Attendees will also have the opportunity to get their hands dirty in the different trade displays featuring cabinet making, hospitality, refrigeration, metal fabrication, landscaping and many more. Try’a Trade will operate during the daytime sessions of the Canberra Careers Market and will be located in a purpose constructed marquee at the back of the Marathon room. Small Business and Entrepreneurs Lounge The Small Business and Entrepreneurs Lounge will again offer attendees of the Canberra Careers Market the opportunity to learn more about small business and entrepreneurial activity in the ACT. The Lounge will feature high quality presentations and micro group discussions conducted by successful small business owners and entrepreneurs. The Small Business and Entrepreneurs Lounge aims to inspire attendees to explore the many exciting possibilities of the small business sector. As part of our ongoing commitment to community service, the Rotary Club of Canberra City is proud to present this vocational service free of charge to attendees. Any surplus proceeds from site fees and sponsorship are applied for the benefit of local youth and vocational projects conducted by the Rotary Club of Canberra City. |
